Orphan Sunday

This weekend was national Orphan Sunday, and CityCom was abuzz with all kinds of dialog about adoption and orphan care initiatives. We were honored to interview Linda Wrestler, director of Bethany Christian Services here in Indy.  And we also heard the personal adoption stories of CityCom co-pastors Nathan & Trish LaGrange, and staffers Jake & Joy Brown.

The Story of Two: Adoption

On the practical side, CityCom has seeded $2,000 to start an adoption fund through an amazing organization called LifeSong, that will help adopting CityCom families through matching grants and no-interest loans.  And look for orphan care education and support groups to come online as early as next spring.  We desperately want to build all aspects of orphan care into the DNA of City Community Church.

“Religion that God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after orphans and widows in their distress…” James 1:27 NIV

Even if you don’t feel led to adopt, you can still engage in orphan care. A calling all those who truly know Jesus should understand, since through Christ, God actually adopted us.

You can tell for sure that you are now fully adopted as his own children because God sent the Spirit of his Son into our lives crying out, “Papa! Father!” Galatians 4:4 MSG
